The NEBOSH Award in Safety, Health and Environment for the Process Industries is ideal for those working (or wanting to work) in industries like chemicals, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals or food.

The NEBOSH Award in Safety, Health and Environment for the Process Industries course is split into four units of study:

    • Hazards and Controls Associated with Work Equipment, Working with Electricity, Manual Handling and Repetitive Movement, Hazardous Substances, the Working Environment
    • Transport Safety
    • Fire Safety
  • Unit HSW2: Workplace-based Risk Assessment Activity
  • Unit PS1: Process Safety
    • The Foundations of Process Safety
    • Systems to Prevent Loss of Containment
    • Common Hazards, Risks and Controls in the Chemical Industry
    • Plant Integrity
    • Emergency Response
  • Unit PS2: Environmental Management and Practical Application
    • Foundations in Environmental Management
    • Control of Emissions
    • Environmental Risk Assessments (Impact Assessment)

 

Exemptions

If you have already passed Unit HSW1 and/or Unit HSW2 within the last 5 years, you are able to claim an exemption for those unit(s). Exemptions can also be claimed for Unit HSW1 and/or Unit HSW2 if you have achieved any of the following units within the last 5 years (although marks will be capped at 60%).

Assessment

Unit HSW1 and Unit PS1 are each assessed by a short multiple-choice exam. Unit HSW2 and Unit PS2 are each assessed by short workplace-based practical activities.
